Talk to any resident of the Pere Marquette Oaks, and they may try to convince you that the world famous river was named after our great park.  Our park was indeed named after the Pere Marquette River, one of the greatest natural resources of Lake County and the entire State of Michigan.

Canoeing and Kayaking

For the more casual enthusiasts of the Pere Marquette, exploring the river by canoe or kayak is a great way to become acquainted with this natural beauty.  There are too many canoe liveries to count, but two of the most popular offering the full line of equipment are the Baldwin Canoe Rental and Ivan's Canoe Rental.

Baldwin Canoe Rental is Michigan's largest and most complete provider of canoeing, kayaking and rafting, serving the Pere Marquette National Scenic River. Located near Baldwin Michigan, in the heart of the Huron Manistee National Forest, Baldwin Canoe Rental has a fleet of 400 watercraft, including canoes, inflatable rafts, solo & tandem kayaks, and tubes.

Ivan's Canoe Rental also services the beautiful Pere Marquette River with canoes, kayaks and rafts offering trips from three hours to four days. Ivan's provides transportation to and from the river, and also does car spotting.

Fishing

People come from around the country and even around the world to experience fishing on the Pere Marquette River.  As one indication of the quality of fishing you'll find, there are only six Orvis Authorized Fly-Fishing Dealers in all of Michigan, and one is located just over four miles from the campground on M-37 south of Baldwin.
